Teaching Kids the Value of Focus in a Distracted World

How important is it to teach you kids the meaning and application of focus. It is very important, screens will pull your kids from every direction. Instant gratification the brain is immediately latching on to those screens. You should know how easy it is to get distracted with a cell phone. Our lives improve dramatically when cell phones are under utilized. As parents we need to lead by example, do you find yourself on the phone a lot? I know I did, and even now when I turn off the Freedom app I am immediately sucked in. Agh make it stop!

In fact I went into my freedom app just now to edit the start and stop time. I need it blocking me from 6am to 1130pm. I literally do not need social media on my phone at anytime. (Hint you don’t either).

Your kids are watching you, they are picking up what you are putting down. Suck it up and recognize “hey I do not NEED youtube or facebook” the doom scroll is “NOT NEEDED”. Your kids need you present, they want you present. You do not want them sucked into the phone any more than you want to me sucked in. How much more productive and enjoyable will your life be without the screen? I think its 100% better, no joke.

The ability to focus is important, for all of us. Your child has dreams and aspirations, will they accomplish those dreams while glued to a screen? No they will not and neither will you. Focus is defined as to “pay particular attention to.”. If your child wants to become an author, doctor, teacher, developer, etc, they are going to need your help right now. Put them in situations where they need to focus, give them tasks with deadlines to help them focus. Do not let them have phones! There is absolutely no benefit for a child to have a phone. Set them up for success.
